Supporting Mental Health in the Workplace with Able Futures

Share

At McCrory, we recognise that construction is an industry built on high standards, tight programmes, and physical demands. But just as important is the wellbeing of the people behind the work.

That’s why we are proud to be working alongside Able Futures to provide additional workplace mental health support for our teams. This initiative forms part of our ongoing commitment to supporting staff wellbeing across all of our projects, ensuring our people feel supported both on and off site.

What is Able Futures?

Able Futures is a free mental health support service available to people who are employed across the UK. Delivered as part of the Access to Work Mental Health Support Service, it provides professional, tailored support to help individuals manage mental health challenges while staying in work.

Through Able Futures mental health support, employees are matched with qualified mental health professionals who provide practical advice and guidance based on individual needs and circumstances.

Free and Confidential Mental Health Support

A key benefit of Able Futures is that it offers completely free and confidential mental health support. Employees can self-refer directly, meaning they can access support without needing to go through management.

The service includes:

  • One-to-one support from qualified mental health professionals
  • Support for anxiety, stress, depression, and other related challenges
  • Practical coping strategies tailored to the individual
  • Flexible sessions, including telephone-based support where needed
  • Support for up to nine months
  • Guidance to help individuals stay in work or return to work

This Able Futures confidential support is designed to be flexible, accessible, and easy to use, allowing individuals to engage in a way that works best for them.

Supporting Employee Wellbeing

Supporting employee wellbeing is central to how we operate at McCrory. By partnering with Able Futures, we are strengthening the support available to our teams and helping to create a more open and supportive culture around mental health in the workplace.

Alongside the service itself, Able Futures also provides resources to help businesses raise awareness, including site materials, information sessions, and guidance on embedding mental health support across projects.

We will be promoting this service across our sites and offices, ensuring that all employees are aware of the support available and how to access it.

Why Workplace Mental Health Matters

The construction industry can present unique challenges. Long hours, physically demanding roles, travel, and time away from family can all contribute to stress, anxiety, or low mood.

While these challenges are not always visible, they can have a significant impact on individuals, teams, and overall business performance. Supporting mental health in the workplace is therefore not just important, it is essential.

By investing in workplace mental health support, we are helping to:

  • Reduce stigma around mental health
  • Support individuals through challenging periods
  • Improve overall wellbeing and job satisfaction
  • Encourage a healthier, more productive workforce

Research also shows that mental health is one of the biggest challenges facing businesses today, particularly within SME environments, highlighting the importance of proactive support.

Our Commitment to Mental Health Awareness

Our collaboration with Able Futures reflects our wider commitment to mental health awareness and supporting staff wellbeing across the business.

We are committed to creating an environment where our people feel supported, valued, and able to speak openly about mental health, whether on site, in the office, or across our wider operations.

By working alongside Able Futures, we are taking a proactive step towards ensuring our teams have access to the support they need, when they need it.
